How to calculate federal withholding tax using the percentage tables
Payroll tax calculations are important for any businesses. Many factors will influence the tax calculations, such as the filing status, allowances claimed on W-4, retirement account contributions and more. Some people may even see $0 federal tax withholding out of their paychecks.

1. Decide your filing status: single or married
2. Find your pay period: weekly, biweekly, semi-monthly, monthly or daily
3. Find your gross income for each paycheck
4. Add up your income exemptions for each paycheck
You can claim allowances on the W-4. Each allowance will lower your taxable income. The more allowances you claim the less federal income tax you pay; the less you claim, the more federal tax you pay.
The standard deduction is $3,900 per allowance per year (For Year 2013).
5. Add up your before tax deductions, such as 401 K, flexible account contributions ... for each paycheck
6. Figure out your taxable income for each paycheck
